unlock the mysteries of the spiritual realm, to help us discover its secrets, to blaze a path so we may follow. The title of our Lord in this text tells us He is The Pioneer of our faith. He has gone before us in the spiritual realm. The secret of success on the pilgrimage of life is to follow in His steps.

As the Pioneer of our faith, He has opened for us the path that leads to abundant, vibrant, victorious, fulfilling, and eternal life. He leads us forth from the hinterlands of mere existence to the frontiers of exciting discoveries and delights.

In Hebrews 2:10 (RSV), Christ is portrayed as the Archegon or Pioneer of our salvation. His path led to the agonies suffered in the shadows of Gethsemane. He trod in deep sorrow the Via Dolorosa. He trekked up the lonely and torturous path that led to Calvary. He traveled down the dark and desolate road that led to our salvation. But He returned with the gleaming keys of salvation and eternal life at His side. He opened for us the doors to heaven.

In Hebrews 11, we are given the roll call of faith in this Westminster Abbey of the Bible. Christ is the Chief Leader of our faith. We need to keep our eyes fixed on the Pioneer of our faith in order to avoid the distractions and detours that will prevent us from reaching our goal in the great race of life.

This last text gives us a compound title: "The Pioneer and Perfecter of our faith." He who has originated, authored, and pioneered our faith will also perfect it. He has not deserted life's path and those who travel on it. His presence and His resources enable us to go all the way with Him to fulfill life's ultimate design and reach life's ultimate destination.

In a sense, we are all pioneers. Each one has before him a life that is uncharted. We are blazing an individual path of life where no one has ever gone before. We may go safely and successfully if we follow One who has gone before and prepared the way for us.

Pioneer of the way that lies before me, give endurance to follow You all the way.

JESUS CHRIST

Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ (1 Peter 1:1).

The double title "Jesus Christ" has meaning over and above the titles used separately. "Jesus" is our Lord's human name and "Christ" is His divine name. Thus the two link His humanity and divinity. When used in combination, as in the signature at the opening of Peter's epistles, it is an acknowledgment of our Lord as man and God Peter knew the Lord in His humanity. He was privileged to share intimate companionship, to witness firsthand His astonishing life and ministry on earth. He knew the Lord in His divinity. He witnessed the drama of our Lord's mighty miracles and the astonishment of His deeds.

This disciple had reason to be grateful for the special understanding the Lord would have of him, having been human and knowing our testings.
